Located at 38o 43´N and 27o 12´W, Terceira Island lies 21 mi east of Sao Jorge, 90 mi northwest of Sao Miguel and 32 mi southeast of Graciosa.

It has 402 km2, 29 km long and 18 km wide, and a population of 55,833 inhabitants.

The city of Angra do Heroismo, the main urban center of the island was classified as World Heritage by UNESCO because of the beauty of its Renaissance houses, their churches and monasteries, characterized by vivid colors and cascading historical and cultural value.
